Charges that Change Cheap to Outrageous
Everyone is looking for a deal. The trouble in the economy has forced millions to cut back on spending, tighten belts and re-evaluate budgets. The family vacation has felt the sting in many situations.
People have turned to looking for cheap vacation packages to make their family vacation a reality while still staying within budget. The internet offers millions of sites to visit based on the phrase “cheap vacation package.” Be careful that the vacation of a life time at a price that seems too good to be true does not turn out to be a mirage.
Charges that Change Cheap to Outrageous
1. Airline baggage fees. Many airlines have turned to charging for checked bags in an effort to pull their own finances out of trouble. The $25 per bag charge (or what ever it may be for your airline) may not seem too much until you consider that it is per leg of your flight. It is possible that with the deals that you can find for air travel your bags could end up costing more than the actual flight. Stick to carry on luggage when ever possible and you avoid the expense and worry of checked bags.
2. Fuel surcharge. There was a time when this charge was included in the ticket but airlines are looking to advertise cheap rates so they take this charge on AFTER you purchase your ticket.
3. International fees and taxes. Many of the amazing vacation packages that are advertised over the internet are not so amazing when you start adding taxes, fees and other amounts that are usually only listed in TINY print at the bottom of the ad.
4. Arrival or departure fee. Some locations may charge a tax or fee just for visiting or leaving (maybe even both).
5. Tips. Even in all-inclusive vacation packages the cost of tips may not be included (and paying tips may be a requirement and not a choice).
Looking for a cheap vacation package has never been easier but be sure that what you get really is a cheap vacation package. Read through the entire ad or contract and highlight the hidden fees and costs before you purchase so that you can get a true picture of what your cheap vacation package really costs.
